Grief sucks… But you don’t have to do it alone.
If you're struggling to cope with grief, we can help you navigate these feelings and offer support and strategies to process and integrate your experience. Not to move on, but to move with. Grief is both universal and incredibly difficult. Loss is interwoven into so many of life’s challenging experiences, not only in death, but break-ups, job transitions, growth in our gender and identity, estrangement, and more. They’re all open for discussion in our time together.

Nicole Cowan LCSW MPH
I work with clients ages 16 and up in both short- and long-term healing relationships, providing space and tools to safely process and cope through grief, depression, and anxiety. My clinical focus centers on losses to death and living losses, depression, anxiety, cancer and other chronic or life-threatening illnesses, family caregiving, end of life, and other significant life transitions. I also support families in navigating the many challenges of illness, end-of-life planning, and traumatic loss. I strive to ground my practice in an antiracist, affirming, non-pathologizing framework, and I welcome discussions about justice, oppression, and privilege.
Meaning and hope can be vital to wellbeing, and I understand the complexity of meaning and hope in the face of significant life transitions. It would be an honor to join with you in exploring the meaning of your unique life challenges and achieving greater access to your inner healing intelligence.

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here. I’ve built my practice around both evidence-based research and lived experience, and strive to meet my clients wherever they are in their grief process, be it acute, new grief, or an older grief resurfacing (or that’s always been there). I’m aware that grief radiates through every arena of life and I believe that through our work it can be integrated, so that grief is no longer the loudest voice in the room.
In session, I commonly utilize relational-cultural, humanistic, feminist, narrative, and constructivist approaches, though I tailor our work to meet your needs and preferences. Please see my FAQs for more details on training and theories. I strive to operate with an anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and abolitionist lens and center justice and liberation in my therapeutic work as well as in my life.
I am a white, queer, currently able bodied femme human living in West Philadelphia with my nesting partner and rescue dog. I collect and create art and I love to peruse a flea market or yard sale. I hope that getting to know a bit about me helps you make a decision on whether we would be a good fit. If you’re ready, start our work together by clicking here.
Virtual individual therapy rates are based on self-disclosed sliding scale and range from $80 – $160 per session. My insurance spots are currently full.
